GET INVOLVED :: Trees for Survival (TfS)

Apply to become a TfS School - How can you help?  - Become a Member of the Friend's of TfS - Join the TfS Team

Apply to become a TFS School

Primary, Intermediate and Secondary schools are eligible to join the TfS programme. The first step is to complete the TfS School Application Form (click to download). Completing the application will require support from the school Board of Trustees and confirmation that the school has an ongoing environmental education strategy.  In making the application schools are asked to identify several businesses and/or service clubs to be a Supporting Organisation that will be able to assist in the funding of the TfS programme.  TfS will assist schools in this process.

Attached to the Application Form is an outline of the responsibilities a school is expected to take on if the TfS programme is to be incorporated to the school curriculum. If you need help in completing the Application Form or have any enquiries please contact the TfS Administrator by clicking on this link.  The responsibilities of the partners involved in the TfS programme is outlined in the Partnership Document.

When the completed Application Form is received TfS will make contact with the School and begin the process of setting up the programme within the School. Part of this process is the conclusion of a Partnership Document which outlines the various responsibilities of each partner in the programme.

Each region has a different Partnership Document - click on the region for the document appropriate to your region. Auckland - Waikato - Bay of Plenty (Tauranga) - Taranaki - Gisborne - Horizons - Wellington.

It may take 3 months or more from the initial application to have a Plant Growing Unit installed and processes in place to begin the programme. Contact the TfS Administrator if you can't download the document for your region.

A Partnership Agreement is then concluded and attached to the Partnership Document to ensure all partners understand their obligations to the TfS programme. A copy of the Partnership Agreement can be obtained by clicking on the link.

How can you help?

TFS is a partnership and there are a number of ways business, organisations and communities can help more schools to plant more trees to restore our eroded land.

  • SPONSORSHIPS
Champions provide Trees for Survival with essential funding so that the programme can be expanded and more resources provided nationwide. Currently Yates is a major Programme Champion.

Sponsors also provide important support for the Trees for Survival programme often providing essential goods and services.  Businesses like Multistrut, GS Shapland Ltd and Parklands have been long term supporters.

School Sponsors or Supporting Organisations provide funding to local schools to purchase a Plant Growing Unit (PGU), provide ongoing supplies or assist the school with transport or personnel on planting days.

Potential Trees for Survival SPONSORS can make further enquiries by clicking here -  Sponsorship Enquiry

  • SUPPORTING ORGANISATIONS
Trees for Survival was initiated by the Rotary Club of Pakuranga and since its beginning it has had tremendous support from Rotary Clubs throughout New Zealand.  However, increasingly buinesses and community groups are becoming involved because of environmental issues such as sustainability and climate change.
Each School participating in the TFS programme has a Supporting Organisation (SO) associated with it.  Find out about what is involved in becoming a Supporting Organisation.

    Unit Sponsors
fund the purchase of a Plant Growing Unit (PGU). These units are usually 6m long but they are available in 4m or 2m sizes. Make an enquiry about becoming a Unit Sponsor by clicking here - Unit Sponsor Enquiry

School Sponsors undertake to provide the funding to enable the school to meet the ongoing cost of running the PGU.  The Programme Sponsor pays the Annual Fee which allows Trees for Survival to provide supplies such as seedlings and potting mix as well as equipment and resources.  Make an enquiry to become a School Sponsor here.

School Sponsors may also assist with the funding of transport of children to the planting sites on Planting Day are also an important component of the programme. This funding may be provided by the Unit or School Sponsor but can equally be another Supporting Organisation wishing to help their local school children travel on planting days.  If you would like to help contact Trees for Survival here.
  • LANDOWNERS
    Landowners
have the opportunity to revegetate areas of eroded land, safeguard stream and water quality, provide shade for stock along planted margins and improve productivity as well as providing habitats for the spread of our native flora and fauna. Landowners with threatened land can contact the TFS Administrator to make enquiries on what steps they need to take to obtain TFS assistance.
